What is a Palapa?
A palapa is a free-standing thatched-roof, open-sided structure, traditionally similar to a large umbrella. The material that covers the roof of a palapa typically consists of dried and woven palm-tree leaves, known as thatch. A palapa is sometimes referred to as a grass or tiki hut, and is customized, for an original, luxurious feel. The structure of the frame is made out of solid yellow pine wood poles, which range in 2" to 6" in diameter thick.
The most common place to see a palapa is in the tropics, but it can also provide shade and a relaxing tropical atmosphere in your own backyard.
